Methodist women’s circles are small, supportive groups of women within a local church that provide fellowship, spiritual growth, and opportunities for mission work. They are a core part of the United Women in Faith (formerly United Methodist Women) organization and focus on building community through shared activities like prayer, study, service projects, and supporting local and global missions that help women and children.
Key characteristics
- Fellowship and support: Circles create a creative and supportive community where women can build friendships and offer mutual support.
- Spiritual growth: They provide opportunities for women to grow in their faith through study, devotion, and prayer.
- Mission and service: A significant focus is on expanding concepts of mission through participation in local and global ministries that serve women and children. This can include activities like assembling care kits, supporting projects like Samaritan’s Purse, or providing meals for church events.
- Variety of groups: Circles can vary significantly in size, age range, and specific interests, with some groups focusing on intergenerational connection, while others are geared toward specific life stages, such as retired women or those with grandchildren.
- Diverse activities: Activities are diverse and planned by the group, and can include book studies, lunches out, social events, and mission projects.
- Emphasis on community: These groups are designed to foster a sense of belonging and are often open and welcoming to newcomers.
